Grigore Alexandru Ghica

Grigore Alexandru Ghica (* 1803/1807 in Botosani, † August 24, 1857 in Paris) was a Moldavian prince.

Life

Ghica, was born in Botosani. His wife Helena was the daughter of Moldavian prince Ioniţă Sandu Sturdza. The liberal successor to Michael Stourdza was after the Romanian Revolution of 1848, between May 1849, October 1853 Moldavian prince. After the Russian occupation Ghica was again between October 1854 and June 1856 Prince of Moldavia. During his tenure he founded in 1850 a Gendarmerie Corps. A school of Romanian Gendarmerie now bears his name. After his tenure, he moved to Paris. Ghica was the only ruler of the principalities, who died by suicide in exile. He died at his home in Paris.
