Grimkesee

The Grimkesee is a eutrophic classified and shallow lake southwest of Schwerin city center. On the north side there is a small garden area, to which the " Old Cemetery " followed. By fencing and a swampy alder forest belt, the water is not easily accessible. The Grimkesee was until the 1960s, privately owned and is one of the legally protected biotopes.

Flora and Fauna

The Grimkesee has an extensive siltation zone, which is overgrown with alder carr and bushes, to which follow wetlands on basic Niedermoortorfen. In the waters underwater grass, water lilies, reeds and Seggenrieder occur.

In the area of the water a total of 299 plant species, 21 of which are on the Red List of the country, eight species of amphibians, grass snake and sand lizard, 99 species of birds including the kingfisher, 22 dragonflies and 436 butterfly species were detected.
