Grimm 31

The House Grimm 31 was a Hamburg merchant's house on the island of Grimm in the center of Hamburg. The house was built in the first half of the 16th century and destroyed in 1943 by bombs.

From the house still exist some photos and drawings, but especially the wooden ceiling beams from the late 17th century has received.

It is known primarily for the magnificent wooden beamed ceiling from the second half of the 17th century, which is installed since its opening in 1922 at the Museum of Hamburg History. This was commissioned by the then owner, the Christian Kramer rabbits Bank. Originally, this blanket was spread over several rooms of Obgerschosses the merchant's house. At the Hamburg Museum of the ceiling reached by a donation from the former home owner, J. Hansen. The decoration of the ceiling is a characteristic example of the baroque decorative painting and interior painting in Hamburg. The painting is on pine boards, of which 151 are still preserved. In the merchant lobby of the Hamburg Museum this reconstructed by 17 transom and 68 more boards are added. The motifs are taken from the decorative painting of the Baroque. In addition to coarse -drawn tendrils putti and other figures are seen in playful and bawdy acts. The portal of the house of 1691 fit in with the surroundings of the houses in Grimm and Cremon one. The mermaids, which also adorned the portal, were probably the only ones of their kind in Hamburg.
