Grimm (TV series)
Grimm is an American crime drama with fantasy and mystery elements, based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, developed by Stephen Carpenter, David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. The series has been produced since 2011 by Universal Television in association with Hazy Mills Productions for the U.S. broadcaster NBC. It follows the Detective Nick Burkhardt, who learns from his aunt Marie, that he is a descendant of the Brothers Grimm and can thus detect camouflaged in some fellow magical creatures. In the U.S., the initial emission took place on October 28, 2011 on NBC. In German-speaking broadcasting began on February 18, 2013 in VOX.

Action
Grimm tells the story of Detective Nick Burkhardt, who is suddenly able to recognize some fellow creatures he or she was previously believed to only know from fairy tales. After his aunt Marie is visited him and shortly afterwards attacked by an unknown creature and hurt, Nick realizes that he is wearing a mystical heritage in itself and it is his calling to protect humanity from the beasts in human form.

Production and characteristics
Action scene is the city of Portland, Oregon, where the series itself is also rotated. The outside shooting are usually made in the city itself or in the nearby area around the city. The reason that the series is filmed in and around Portland, the great forests were in the two parks, Washington and Forest called. The Forest Park is also the largest park in the country, which lies within the city limits, it is also larger than Central Park in New York and the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Many of the episodes focus on stories of the Brothers Grimm, although some episodes contain tales which were not composed by the brothers. The other episodes include adaptations compiled by the brothers stories, albeit with considerable artistic freedom.
Production history
Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt, of which other well-known television series such as Angel - Hunters of darkness and Buffy - come the Vampire Slayer, her idea to Grimm laid in January 2011 prior to the NBC, which gave the green light for a pilot episode then. The media group belonging to the production company Universal Television with Hazy Mills was commissioned along Productions with production. After the filming taking place at the pilot episode in March 2011 in Portland, followed in May 2011, the official series order by NBC. The shooting of the remaining episodes of the first season were recorded in mid-July in Portland back in 2011. As a premiere then October 21, 2011 was called, which one then two months later postponed by a week back on the 28 October 2011. After only four episodes broadcast transmitter Grimm gave a full season order of 22 episodes.
In March 2012, NBC announced the production of a second season, with a further 22 episodes. The shooting for the second season began in late May again in Portland, which were officially opened by Governor John Kitzhaber. End of April 2013, the series was renewed for a third season with 22 episodes. In March 2014, the announcement of a fourth season followed.
Casting
The casting began in mid-February with the signing of David Giuntoli as Nick Burkhardt protagonist. A few days later, the role of Eddie Monroe, a blood Bader, who helps Nick, with Silas Weir Mitchell was occupied. Also a short time later you could engage in the role of Nick's partner Hank Griffin Russell Hornsby and for the role of Nick's girlfriend Juliette Silverton Bitsie Tulloch. In early March, the role of Nick and Hank's supervisor homicide with Sasha Roiz and the role of her colleague Sergeant Wu Reggie Lee was busy. Also in March, Claire Coffee was hired for the supporting role of Adalind pity.
For the second season Bree Turner has been promoted to the role of Rosalee Calvert and Claire Coffee as Adalind shame to leading ladies.
Characteristics
The episode of the series usually starts with a short excerpt from a German or Nordic fairy tale that has often thematically something to do with the plot of the episode and also has some relation to the fairy tale.
In the first season was abandoned on a usual bias from a montage of individual scenes, in favor of a short on-screen title image. From the second season, however, there is a bias.
While the first season of the frame story moves next to the action of each episode in the background and the episodes are usually self-contained, this ratio turns in the second season and most episodes end with a cliffhanger. In the third season, one finds a mixed form.

United States
Following the series order in May 2011, NBC announced a premiere on 21 October 2011. The series finally launched a week later on 28 October 2011 after the fifth and final season premiere of the action- comedy series Chuck. The pilot episode was seen by just under 6.5 million viewers, resulting in a target rating of 2.1 resulted. He surpassing its lead-in Chuck, which has only a 1.0 rating, up 110 percent. This makes it the best drama series launch and overall the best premiere of a television series on NBC this season. As is the case with pretty much all of the new series, Grimm lost in the next few weeks a couple of viewers, so they finally reached yet 5.2 million viewers and a rating of 1.6 at the third episode. At this level, the odds then commuted one. On average, the first season of 6.36 million viewers was seen, whereby it comes to rank 81 among all broadcast series in this season.
The broadcast of the second season began on August 13, 2012 on NBC. After the episode of 16 November 2012, the series went into a nearly four -month break and returned on March 8, 2013, the remaining ten episodes of the season on NBC back. The series changed for the final four episodes of the second season starting on April 30, 2013 from Friday to Tuesday and was there to broadcast the U.S. version of The Voice in the port. The second season finale was on 21 May 2013.
The broadcast of the third season takes place since 25 October 2013.
Germany
The broadcast rights for Germany acquired in March 2012, the Media Group RTL Germany. The first broadcast of the first season took place between February 18 and July 15, 2013 at VOX. An average of 1.37 million viewers ( 11.4 percent ) of the target demographic and 2.21 million viewers ( 7.2 percent ) of the total audience, the first season, which is well above the channel average. The broadcast of the second season began on 26 August 2013, and ended on January 27, 2014 at VOX. Ratings of the second season fell with an average of 8.7 percent of the target demographic and 1.73 million viewers ( 5.5 percent ) of the total audience not quite as good as the first season, but are still higher than the channel average.
Internationally
Grimm is distributed in over 50 different countries in North and South America, Europe, East and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Oceania. In addition to the United States, the series is also broadcast in Canada, Latin America and Sweden since the year 2011. In 2012, the Original Series was held in the oceanic States Australia and New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Greece, Spain, France, Norway, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Iran, Russia and some Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia instead.
