Grind#Typical grinds

The hollow ground describes a particular shaped by grinding cutting tool geometry and cutting weapons, which have to be extra sharp.

The hollow grinding of tools is formed by one or two concave cut surfaces forming the cutting edge at the tapered point. The cut is made by means of a rotating grinding wheel across the cutting edge or a grinding stone. The disk erodes the material, the radius of the disk determines the strength of Hohlung. The size of the entire Hohlung still depends also on the thickness of the workpiece. This touches the workpiece (eg a sword ) is sharper, but also loses stability and resilience. For this reason, mainly cutting, the more likely to come to softer materials are used, provided with a hollow ground. A hollow ground usually have scissors, razors, chisels and carving knives. But skates get on the runners hollow ground, but this by longitudinal cut on a thin grinding wheel, which has a radius itself.
