Gritakumar E. Chitty

Gritakumar E. Chitty ( born June 14, 1939 in Colombo) is a native of Sri Lanka lawyer. He was from 1996 to 2001 senior registrar of the International Tribunal.

After studying law at the University of Ceylon, from which he graduated in 1965, he put 1967 at the Sri Lanka Law College, the bar exam and received the following year his approval. This was followed by work as a lawyer at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. In 1975 he entered the service of the United Nations and was until 1994 responsible for dispute resolution Law of the Sea. He was also commissioned to design the inauguration ceremony of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia 1993/1994. Even with the establishment of the International Tribunal for the Law he was entrusted mainly and acted in the transition phase from August to October 1996 as its executive director.
