Grønland Church (Oslo)

Grønland kirke is a church that is built in 1868 and at the Grønlandsleiret 34 in the district of Gamle Oslo Grønland in Oslo. Architect of the church was a native of Germany and immigrated to Norway Wilhelm von Hanno. The Church belongs to the diocese of Oslo Evangelical Lutheran Church of Norway, and was inaugurated in 1869.

The church was built in the Romanesque Revival style with a visible red brick brick façade and has 800 seats.

In 1969 the interior of the church was given a new color scheme after investigation and templates of the architect Odd Helland. The new colors are a little weaker than the previous original.

Inside the church is otherwise still equipped with the relatively well-preserved original interior. The pulpit and the pews in the nave were renewed in 1949 after the plans of the Oslo city builder. Behind the altar is a five stained glass windows by an unknown artist. Make Jesus Christ and his disciples to proclaim the Gospel in different poses dar. 1988, the church was extensively renovated.

Direct to the church is the connected municipally owned cemetery. The congregation of Grønland Church was founded in 1861. The parish owns and operates the exterior site VESTASOL Leirsted with summer camp, or campground, which is located at a beach, in the Tettsted Larkollen outside the municipality Moss is used. In the main building there will also social gatherings and meetings of the church members and their supporters are held to obtain their cooperation and efforts of the location.

The church has its own parish in the Grønlandsleiret 41 while the parish office and staff are housed at another location in Gamle Oslo at the Grønlandsleiret 31. Since 1 January 2013, the Gamlebyen Church and the Grønland community also forms along a common parish church (Norwegian Sogn ) with the Grønland kirke as the main church and a senior pastor of the parish church ( Sokneprest ). The newly folded parish acts under the name Gamlebyen - Grønland. The Gamlebyen kirke ( Old Church ) is only used as a simple parish church since that time.

Heritage and World Heritage

Grønland kirke is registered as a World Heritage Site under the number 84441 and was the Norwegian Riksantikvaren ( Reich archivist ) protected monument as a national heritage site.
