Astir CS

The Grob Astir CS (first flight December 19, 1974 ) is the first self-constructed plane of the aircraft manufacturer Grob ( Grob Aircraft today ). It was manufactured in plastic construction and is characterized even today with a very roomy cockpit and very good-natured slow flying characteristics and its flight performance from acceptable. He appeared at the turn of 1974-75. The Astir CS was in competition for the ASK -18 ( glide ratio of about 33 ). Since the ASK -18 but was made of mixed fiber and lower benefits than the Astir CS had ( glide ratio 38), the Astir put through at a small extra charge. The Astir CS is today in clubs and at private pilots than good money ( currently depending on condition and equipment 8000-13000 euros ) as well as its good performance in the DAEC index ( index of 96 ) attractive. The Astir CS is still often used for advanced course for cross-country flights and by private pilots, as it remains affordable by the low price and low maintenance costs. The production of the Astir CS in 1977 after a series of 535 aircraft in favor of the newly constructed Astir CS 77 - later called " Standard" - set.

Astir II

Astir CS 77/Standard Astir II

The Astir CS 77 (first flight March 26, 1977 ) is a revised version of the Astir CS, were in the adopted some features of the Speed Astir. He has a new sleeker body, the cockpit has been extended slightly more legroom. While the wing was not changed, they changed the height and vertical tail of the profiles. This leads to an altered flight response to the CS, especially in view of the now much reduced maneuverability about the vertical axis. The tailplane connections and control levers for flaps and landing gear were modified.

Astir CS Jeans / Club Astir II

The Jeans Astir is a version of CS 77 with fixed landing gear and without water tank in order to compete in the Club Class can. Its name comes from the largely in denim - Interior held - denim fabric.

Astir III

The Astir III is a further development of the Astir II In contrast to previous models of the Astir III has a tail wheel instead of the fixed spur.

In these variants, in 2001, the VNE was fixed by a technical publication of the manufacturer temporarily to 165 km / h. The reason for this were some incidents with elevator flutter at high speeds. By installing a mass balance, the restriction could be lifted.

Standard Astir III

A copy of this type is in the National Air and Space Museum ( NASM ) in Washington, DC issued.

This glider Robert Harris reached on 17 February 1986 on the mountains of the Sierra Nevada a height of 14,938 m - this FAI record was over 20 years.

Club Astir III / b

As with previous models, the club version of the Astir III is delivered without tanks for water ballast and retractable landing gear. Compared to Club Astir IIIb the main landing gear variant Club Astir III is mounted farther forward, making it possible to dispense with an additional nose wheel.
