Grob/E-Systems/AlliedSignal Egrett

The Grob 520 is a reconnaissance aircraft of the German manufacturer Grob, which was developed in collaboration with an international consortium of companies ( Raytheon and Garret ) and the Federal Ministry of Research.

History

The Grob 520 was developed in the 1980s for a call to a high-flying surveillance platform under the name LAPAS ( Airborne, distance -capable primary education system ). The precursor D -450 Egrett I had on 24 June 1987 its first flight. Was powered by a 552 kW turboprop Honeywell Garrett TPE - 331- 14F. The two pre-production aircraft D -500 Egrett II followed in 1989 and 1990 respectively and were then converted to 1991 D -520 Stratotanker 1 / Egrett. The EASA/LBA- and FAA approval for the Strato 1 was carried out on 22 March 1991 and 13 September 1991. In 1992, the Air Force ordered 16 machines, including a two-seat trainer version of the 520T should be delivered by 2001, but the order was later canceled because of the Amigo affair. The fifth and remaining as the only machine in Germany with the registration D - FGRO last flew on 23 June 1992 and subsequently mothballed in Tussenhausen - Mattsies. Following the insolvency of Grob, the machine was the new owner, under the name DEGOSS, marketed as "optional piloted vehicle". The Grob G 520 can also be used for guiding unmanned aircraft.
