Music and performances by the band

The band rough cut was for her time as a very innovative group that was offering their many hours of stage shows with a mix of theater, visual effects, cheerful slapstick and extremely long musical improvisation. The longest of these continuous improvisations could take over an hour and was entitled Solar Music or powerplay. The lyrics of the band were at first in English, then later came a drive to German -language texts. In both cases, the band socially controversial issues such as the peace movement, the progress and faith in technology or the protest against the expansion of nuclear power expressed. A typical example of this commitment is the text of Father Schmidt's hiking on the album Jumbo. On the other hand, the band could also tell musical tales, as in the concept album Rockpommel's country.

The band had their most loyal fans in the German-speaking area, although the album was released Rockpommel 's Land in the English speaking Canada, and there achieved remarkable sales figures. An absolute novelty in the German music scene marked the release of the album Jumbo in 1975, which later came out again, first with English lyrics and a year in German.

Another characteristic of the musical activity of rough cut was the number and locations of their performances.
