Grook

Gruk is a form of short poems, which was developed by the Danish scientist Piet Hein. The Gruks are characterized by irony, paradox, brevity, precise use of language and often satirical nature, that is, what is called in German literature as aphorisms.

Piet Hein wrote over 7,000 Gruks, most in Danish or English, published in 20 volumes. It is variously believed that the name of "grin " and " souk" ( for " laughter " and " sigh " in Danish ) was derived, but Piet Hein said he had used the word out of the air. His Gruks appeared shortly after the German occupation in April 1940, first in the daily newspaper " policies " with the signature Kumbel Kumbell. The poems were created as a subtle form of passive resistance against the occupation.
