Grootegast

Grootegast ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the northeastern Netherlands, in the province of Groningen. The municipality has 12,220 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) and is 88 km ².

Grootegast is a rural community. There are some small villages, including Lutjegast. In this village the navigator Abel Tasman in 1603 born. There are no birthplace, but a monument and a road remember him.
