Gropello Cairoli

Gropello Cairoli is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4675 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Pavia in Lombardy. The community is located about 12 kilometers west of Pavia at the edge of the Parco naturale della Valle del Ticino lombardo.

History

From the 9th century Graupellum or Ripelium is known, is located directly on the Via Francigena. The addition Cairoli comes from the 19th century in memory of the brothers Cairoli, who played an important role during the Risorgimento.

Traffic

Through the community's Autostrada A7 lead from Milan to Genoa and the Strada Statale 596 dei Caroli from Pavia to Mortara. The train station of Gropelli Carioli lies on the railway line Vercelli, Pavia.
