Grosmont Railway

The Grosmont Railway was a British railway company in Monmouthshire in Wales.

The Company was incorporated on 12 May 1812. Planned by John Hodgkinson eleven kilometers long horse railway connected the places Llanvihangel Crucorney and Monmouth cap at Grosmont. In Llanvihangel Crucorney was a connection via the Llanvihangel Railway up to Abergavenny. The route with a track width of 1067 mm (3 feet, 6 inches) was opened in 1818/1819. With the 1829 Hereford Railway built the line was continued to Hereford.

The track was built for 16,250 pounds. Shareholders of Grosmont Railway have included Henry Somerset, 6th Duke of Beaufort and the Henry Nevill, 2nd Earl of Abergavenny.

1846, acquired the Grosmont Railway from the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway. This built on the track bed of their railway line between the eponymous places.
