Großer Auesee

The Great Auensee in the East Westphalian city Espelkamp in North Rhine-Westphalia is located west of the main town in the floodplain of the river Große Aue. This and the north of this lake in the clay hills have been created for the purpose of recreation and are country sides of river dikes.

Able development and use

The Great Auesee is a semi-natural habitat that has been created artificially in the period 1979 to 1981. This form, together with its surroundings, the same nature reserve. Its water comes in part from the Great Lawns, partially from an urban storm sewer and partly from groundwater. It is 550 m long and 80 m wide on average. In the northern Seewinkel located approximately 15 meters from the shore a 50 m² comprehensive islet on which a single tree stands. On the western shore of the lake is ( directly at the bridge over the Große Aue ) a vantage point for observing the fauna of the lake. East and west of the lakes extend two together grove of 2.5 km ².

Trivia

Although the Kleihügelsee is the largest and the only lake in the old district Luebbecke, neither he nor the Great Auesee the largest lakes of the area: On the peat bog, the central unnamed Moorsee a coherent total water area of ​​9 hectares.
