Großer Stern
The Big Star is the central square in the Tiergarten in the Tiergarten district of Berlin's Mitte district.
History
The place was under Elector Friedrich III. ( 1701 Frederick I, King in Prussia ) was applied to 1698 through the Hofjäger Hemmrich as a hunting lodge. As of 1742 the Great Star was developed in the course of remodeling of the zoo by Knobelsdorffstraße and from 1833 to 1840 by Peter Joseph to a representative place. From the mid- 18th to the early 19th century there was a group of sandstone statues of ancient gods, called " The Dolls ".
Today's expansion
Today it hit several major traffic arteries of the city:
- The 17th June Street west across the Ernst- Reuter-Platz, as Bismarkstraße or emperor dam to the Theodor -Heuss-Platz and continue as a military road
- East over the Brandenburg Gate on Pariser Platz and the boulevard Unter den Linden to the castle bridge at Berlin Cathedral
The big star is created as a great multi-track spiral roundabout which is traveled daily by about 180,000 cars.

Special Events
- On the grounds of the Great star numerous major events took place, such as the final rallies of the Love Parade between 1996 and 2003, and again in 2006 and the Fan Fest Berlin on the occasion of the Football World Cup in 2006, was transferred to the every game of the tournament on several large screens. The so-called ' fan mile ' counted daily up to 700,000 visitors.

- Since 1987, the Berlin Marathon is run over the place in September each year, participate in the regularly thousands of runners, inline skaters and wheelchair racing drivers. The place is the XRace track, a half marathon for inline skaters since 2002 the center.
- In July 2008, the then U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama gave a speech to about 200,000 listeners at the Victory Column.
