Großer Werder (Zingst)

The peninsula and former island of Great Werder is located southwest of Hiddensee, west of the island of Bock and closes east of the peninsula Zingst. It belongs to the district of Vorpommern - how these complaints in northeastern Mecklenburg -Vorpommern.

The Great Werder was inhabited until well into the first half of the 20th century. Due to the secluded location of the single homestead the former island also was nicknamed " Baltic - holm ." The big Werder is now part of the town of Gross Mohrdorf and part of the National Boddenlandscape. To the south lies the Grabow and north of the Baltic Sea. Due to the increasing silting of the arm of the sea on the eastern tip of the Great Zingst Werder became the peninsula (as of summer 2006). This phenomenon has already appeared in the 1970s and 1980s, and means that can appear either as a peninsula or island on cards, depending on relevance and source material used, the peninsula. For this phenomenon, some small, unnamed islands are available in up to 1,000 meters north of the Great Werder and fixed to count that are around 2010 seen on aerial and satellite images and have already found in map series recording.
