Großsiedlung Siemensstadt

The large settlement of Siemens City (also Ringsiedlung ) is a gated community in present-day Berlin district of Charlottenburg- Nord. It was built in 1929-1931 as the eastern extension of the district of Spandau belonging Siemens city. The overall direction was for the city architect Martin Wagner, for the urban concept drew Hans Scharoun responsible. The planning of the built in the style of New Building Blocks known architects of the Weimar Republic such as Walter Gropius, Otto Banning, Hugo Häring, Fred and Paul Rudolf Henning Forbat were involved. The open spaces designed Leberecht Migge. Following the merger of the Architects Community The ring, the settlement was given the nickname Ringsiedlung.

The large settlement Siemens city was incorporated in July 2008 as one of six " Berlin Modernism Housing Estates " in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage. The settlement offered to the workers of the neighboring Siemenswerke a place to live.

Description

The residence was built around the Goebel place in the district of Charlottenburg- Nord. The west of the Virgin Heidewegs situated part of the residential complex is part of the district of Spandau.

Scharoun realized here - following the progressive ideas of the housing of the 1920s - the concept of a loosened, surrounded by open spaces and green stripes residential town, which was groundbreaking for the housing of the period after the Second World War.

Most five-story - arranged in parallel in a north-south direction - residential lines follow a strict urban design within which the architects involved with a different design language created a diverse settlement pattern. Striking for the settlement is Scharoun reminiscent of naval architecture component, which is called " Battleship ".

The streets and squares of the settlement were named after technicians, inventors and physicists, in their performances they saw the roots of the success of Siemens AG.
