Grottammare

Grottammare is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 15,803 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. The village lies about 35 kilometers northeast of Ascoli Piceno in the Adriatic. The beach was the last blue banner as a certified beach.

History

As early as the Stone Age, the area was settled. In the Middle Ages the area was under the rule of the Benedictine Abbey of Farfa.

Traffic

Both the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica and the Autostrada A14 pass through the municipality. The train station of Grottammare is located on the railroad in the Adriatic railway from Ancona to Pescara.
