Group 6 element

In the sixth group of the periodic table the elements are chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, and the element produced in 1974 contained 106 seaborgium. The group is also referred to by the first member as chromium group.

All metals from the group have similar chemical properties ( in the form of the oxidation states 2, 3 and 6). Molybdenum and tungsten are similar with practically the same atomic radius with the most stable oxidation state 6 rather than chrome, with the most stable oxidation state 3. All members are important as a high melting point and high boiling elements alloying constituents. Tungsten is the metal with the highest melting point and the second highest boiling point.
