The mine is a 18.1 km long, orographic left or north-western tributary of the Weser in the circle Hoexter, North Rhine -Westphalia ( Germany ).

Course

The headwaters of the creek mine is located northeast of House and south of Löwendorf, both areas of Marie Münster. The pit flows through House between Eilversen and Bremerberg, then by Ovenhausen and Lütmarsen by Hoexter and thence passing under a common portion of the federal highways 64 and 83 in the Weser.

The present course of the pit is the result of a centuries- long dispute between the town and the monastery of the water rights to the Schelpe and the pit. Originally the mine flowed to the monastery of Corvey. The water, however, was after it had flowed through the city, no longer suitable for the monastery. Therefore, the Schelpe, which culminated earlier north of Corvey in the Weser, diverted. The course of the pit was cut, it was passed after the old town Hoexter into the Weser. The current situation of the streams was mainly governed by a contract between the city and the pin built in 1482.

Channeling and water mills

The creek mine was channeled artificially by the monks of Corvey in part, passing the three mills Höxter, the monks mill, the mill upper and the lower mill.
