Grums IK

The Grums IK is a Swedish ice hockey and soccer club from Grums, which was founded in 1920. 1944, the Hockey Department was established that at the highest division in Sweden, the former 1st Division, took part in the 1950s and 1960s.

History

The Grums IK was founded in 1920 as a football club, whose first team ascended to the third-highest division. 1944, after the establishment of the regional Hockey Association of Värmland added the Hockey Department. With the club committee Gösta Åkander, who initiated among others the construction of an ice rink, the first team was able to achieve initial success. Later Lasse Lindström has been committed by the AIK Stockholm, the up to the 1st Division led the team. In addition, the juniors of the club in 1955 won the Swedish Junior Championship in ice hockey.

1956 a skating rink was opened in Grums, which was the sixth such building in Sweden at this time. The ice hockey team of Grums IK remained for eleven years in the top division in Sweden, with 1958/59 with the move into the final round (SM- Sluspel ) and reaching the third place in the championship of the biggest success in club history was reached in the season.

1965 Grums IK rose from the 1st from the 2nd Division and remained in this league. In 1970, the rink was covered with tent construction and has since been referred to as Billerudshallen. The seating capacity of the ice rink is 1750 spectators.

In 1975, the Elitserien was introduced as the new first division, so that the Grums IK participated in the sequence at the now second-class first division. 1979, the club was relegated to the third division before 1985, back in the Bundesliga. At the end of the 1999/2000 season of Grums IK got out from the Allsvenskan in the now third-rate 1st Division. 2007 followed by a further decline in the fourth-rate second division.

Today, the association operates mainly young talent, the first ice hockey team playing in the second division, while the first football team competes in the 4th Division.
