Grundy County (Tennessee)
Grundy County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Altamont.
Geography
The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, is in the south about 50 miles from Alabama and Georgia away and has an area of 935 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Warren County, Sequatchie County, Marion County, Franklin County and Coffee County.

History
Grundy County was formed on January 29, 1844 from parts of Coffee County and Warren County. It was named for Felix Grundy, a member of the Congress of the United States, U.S. Senator from Tennessee and the 13th Attorney General of the United States.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Grundy County 14,332 people in 5,562 households and 4,054 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.33 percent White, 0.14 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, and 0.35 percent from other races; 0.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.98 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,562 households out of which 33.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.6 percent were married couples living together, 12.0 percent were single mothers and 27.1 percent were non-families. 24.0 percent of all households and 10.2 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average household size was 3.01 people.
25.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.0 percent between 18 to 24, 27.8 percent between 25 and 44, 24.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.0 percent were older than 65, the average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household was 22,959 U.S. dollars ( USD), and the median income for a family was $ 27,691. Males have a median income of $ 27,063, women $ 17,447. The per capita income was $ 12,039. 22.6 percent of families and 25.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
