Grundy County (Tennessee)

Grundy County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Altamont.

Geography

The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Tennessee, is in the south about 50 miles from Alabama and Georgia away and has an area of 935 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Warren County, Sequatchie County, Marion County, Franklin County and Coffee County.

History

Grundy County was formed on January 29, 1844 from parts of Coffee County and Warren County. It was named for Felix Grundy, a member of the Congress of the United States, U.S. Senator from Tennessee and the 13th Attorney General of the United States.
