Grup Yorum is a Turkish band.

Band History

The group is best known for their political lyrics. It was inspired by bands such as Inti Illimani political music from Chile or Ruhi Su from Turkey and established in 1985. The music group belongs to the socialist- revolutionary spectrum and has been exposed to multiple state persecution. Members were detained, arrested and brought to justice and albums were banned.

Grup Yorum ( Yorum in Turkish means ' interpretation ') has released 20 albums since 1987. Many group members were imprisoned and tortured in Turkey.

Some of their concerts and albums were banned. The last ban a group Yorum album took place in 2001. The album " Feda " was banned and confiscated three weeks after publication. As stated in the album " Boran Firtinasi " by Grup Yorum 1998, also employed in this album mainly with the prison situation and the prisoner resistance in Turkey, the death fast that more than one hundred prisoners lost their lives.

Grup Yorum are also concerts in Europe, including in Germany. She stands at Kalan Müzik under contract. The texts include Turkish language, different dialects of the Kurdish language as well as the lasische, an almost extinct language in northern Turkey.

The Turkish security authorities and courts consider Grup Yorum as part of the DHKP -C, which propagated the armed struggle. Grup Yorum against over 400 procedures have been opened so far, in which dozens of members were arrested, incarcerated for several years and had been tortured.

In September 2012, the Grup Yorum singer Selma Altin and violinist Dilan Balci were arrested and taken into custody, as they protested in front of the forensic institute. Here Altin destroyed her eardrum, Balci has been broken an arm. The lawyer Taylan Tanay said the two had been tortured in handcuffs and would have had to lie down in custody while they were kicked by the police. Tanay also said that they had Selma Altin and Dilan Balci treated with the intent to ensure that their careers as musicians were over.
