Grussenheim

Grussenheim (Alsatian Grüssa ) is a commune with 794 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district of Colmar, the canton and the Communauté de communes Andolsheim du Pays du Ried Brun.

Geography

The community Grussenheim is about twelve kilometers from Colmar.

History

The first documentary mention dates from the year 737 The village was subordinated to 770 of the abbey of Ebersmünster. From 1361 until the French Revolution in 1789, it was under the care of the family of Rathsamhausen. The Catholic Holy Cross Church, built by Joseph Michael Schnöller (1707-1767), was rebuilt after destruction in World War II.

The Hafalamarik - that is, as much as Alsatian Häfelchenmarkt - is performed each year since 1850 on 1 May - today under the French name Le Marché aux pots.
