Grzegorz Schetyna

Grzegorz Schetyna ( / gʐɛɡɔʂ sxɛtɨna /; born February 18, 1963 in Opole) is a Polish politician (PO). From July 2010 to November 2011 he was a Marshal of the Sejm ( Parliament Speaker ).

Schetyna worked before 1989 in the anti - communist opposition. He studied in the 1980s at the Faculty of the University of Wroclaw philosophical- historical and was for several years Chairman of the Independent Students' Association ( NZS ) at this university. In 1988 he was chairman of the student strike committee of Wrocław universities and in 1989 as a representative of the opposition student organizations participants of the roundtable.

In 1991 he was appointed deputy voivode of Wrocław Voivodeship. He is the founder of Radio Eska in Lower Silesia and was the owner of the basketball club Slask Wroclaw.

Grzegorz Schetyna is since 1997 member of the Polish Sejm. He was first a member of the Liberal Democratic Congress, the Unia Wolności and is currently a member of the Civic Platform (PO). He was first Secretary General of the Civic Platform and is in Lower Silesia since 2006 Chairman of the PO.

On 16 November 2007 he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and Minister of the Interior of the government of Donald Tusk. Due to the so-called gambling affair, on suspicion of supporting the gaming industry to the detriment of the Polish state, he was released in October 2009 from the Cabinet of Tusk and replaced by Jerzy Miller. He was then appointed as Group Chairman of the PO.

On July 5, 2010 Schetyna was proposed by his party for the position of Sejmmarschalls as the successor of the selected Bronisław Komorowski as president and elected to the office on July 8. Until the official inauguration Komorowski on 6 August 2010, he held the office of provisional president.

In 2011 elected Sejm VII he is chairman of the committee on foreign affairs, but does not belong to the Bureau.
