Guane

Guane is a city and a municipality in the province of Pinar del Rio in Cuba. It is located in the southeast of the province and covers 717 km ² area. The municipality is bordered to the north by Mantua and Minas de Matahambre, on the southeast by San Juan y Martínez and on the southwest by Sandino with the Guanahacabibes Peninsula. In the south the municipality is bordered by the Caribbean Sea. His Refief is wavy. 45 percent of the area consists of hills or mountains and 55 percent levels, which are located mainly in the coastal region.

Established in 1596 the place was the first settlement on the territory of today's province.
