Guarani Futebol Clube

The Guarani Futebol Clube is a sport association from the hinterland city of Campinas in São Paulo, which is mainly known for its football team. Other sports include basketball, volleyball, hockey, tennis, swimming and gymnastics. The colors of the club founded in 1911, are green and white, the mascot is the Indian Bugre. Bugre is also a general common term for Indio and also the nickname of the club. The Guarani FC plays its home games at the Brinco de Ouro da Princesa stadium, the 32,000 spectators sums from. The local rival is Associação Atlética Ponte Preta. 1978 Guarani than was previously the only hinterland club champions of Brazil.

History

The club was founded on April 1, 1911, although the club April 2 leads to escape the usual jokes. The name is a tribute to the based on the novel by José de Alencar Opera O Guarani, the major work of the Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes that treats a love affair with Indian background. The first official match took place on June 18, 1911 against the Sports Club 15 de Novembro, also from Campinas, instead and went 0-3 lost.

In 1950, the club played its first match in the top division of the State of São Paulo. 1973 Guarani was also the first national first-class, and played until 2010 a total of 29 seasons at the highest level. After the championship in 1978 under the later national team coach Carlos Alberto Silva pulled a Guarani in the formerly held in two groups of three semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores in 1979, failed there but in the subsequent winner Club Olimpia of the Paraguayan capital Asunción. Miltão Guarani has six Trefferen scorer of the competition.

As a runner-up in 1986 and 1987, qualified two more times for the Libertadores. Following the departure after the first round of 1987 Gurani qualified in the following year as group winners for the second round, but failed there to CA San Lorenzo de Almagro after a 1-1 draw in Buenos Aires and a 0-1 home defeat. 1988 and 2012, Guarani was also runner-up at the state championship of São Paulo
