Guarenas

Guarenas on the map of Venezuela

Guarenas is a city in the state of Miranda, Venezuela. It is the administrative seat of Berizk Ambrosio Plaza. Its population is approximately 240,000 people (estimates for 2007).

History

Guarenas was founded on February 14, 1621 as an Indian village. The whole name was Nuestra Señora de la Copacabana de los Guarenas.

In 1749, people from Guarenas joined the protests led by Leon against the monopoly of the Guipuzcoana trading house.

Told Alexander von Humboldt, several of the finest sugar plantations of Venezuela were in Guarenas.
