Guarujá do Sul in the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina

Guarujá do Sul is a municipality in the far west of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, near the border with Argentina. The distance to the state capital, Florianópolis is about 750 km.Guarujá has about 4,858 inhabitants (2008 ) in an area of 101 km ² - which gives a population density of 48 persons per square kilometer. About half of the population lives in villages and farms in the main town, the rest.

Guarujá do Sul was settled in the 1940s by descendants of German and Italian immigrants from the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

A wealthy businessman of the area called the just -founded moved to the seaside resort of Guarujá on the Atlantic coast of the state of São Paulo, which he attended with pleasure. At the official founding of the church in 1961 the name of the present Guarujá do Sul ( Guarujá of the South) has been extended.

In order to earn an income, but also to obtain space for agriculture, the settlers dedicated themselves initially in the timber industry. But trees have become scarce. These days, the economy is still dominated by agriculture. In the main, corn and beans are grown and operated breeding and dairy farming.
