Guatimac

A Guatimac is an idol of the Guanches, which is worn around the neck. The Guatimac is a fired clay figure who was probably worshiped as an idol. He was found in a cave of Fasnia ( southeast of Tenerife ) and is now in the Archaeological Museum of Puerto de la Cruz.

The exact meaning is not clear, some researchers believe it might be a sort of totem, for others it represents a guardian spirit Represents the idol was probably used by the priestly caste of the Guanches.

Found it was wrapped in 1885, in skins, Ravine in the cave Herques, and then analyzed by the researcher Juan Bethencourt Alfonso. Thereafter, the idol came to the museum, where it is located today. Despite its small size (it's only about 6.4 cm), the figure has a great anthropological value, since it represents one of the few prehistoric idols, which were found on Tenerife.
