Gudbrandsdalen

Gudbrandsdalen ( German Gudbrandsdal Valley ) is the longest valley with around 320 km long in Norway. It extends from south- east to north - west through the Fylke Oppland. The river Gudbrandsdalen - Lågen flows through the valley in full length. Gudbrandsdalen as landscape includes the municipalities Lesya, Dovre, Skjåk, Lom, Lom, Sel, Nord-Fron, Sør -Fron, Ringebu, Øyer, Gausdal and Lillehammer, of which so the area around Lillehammer and east. In the Gudbrandsdal Valley, there are the lakes Lessö - Verks - Vand, Lösna - Vand and Mjøsa and the towns of Dovre, Dombås, Hundorp, Vinstra and Haga and the cities of Otta and Lillehammer. History

Gudbrandsdalen in the culture

The shape of the Peer Gynt Henrik Ibsen from stage drama of the same name should have stayed and lived in Gudbrandsdal Valley. A memorial stone for Peer Gynt is in Vinstra, his alleged court in Haga.

The Norwegian composer David Monrad Johansen (* 1906, † 1979) named his Suite No.. 2 for piano " Frå Gudbrandsdalen " (Eng. "Through the Gudbrandsdal Valley ").

Sigrid Undset's trilogy Kristin Lavransdatter (1920 /22), for which she received the Nobel Prize for literature, plays a large part in the Gudbrandsdal Valley.

Famous the valley is also known for its brown Süßmolkekäse from goat and cow's milk, the Gudbrandsdalsost (East = cheese).
