Gudrun Schyman

Gerd ( Gudrun ) Maria Schyman ( born June 9, 1948 in Taby ) is a Swedish politician. From 1993 to January 2003 she was chairman of the Swedish Vänsterpartiet ( Left Party ). Because of tax fraud allegations she had to give up their office, but initially remained a member of the Left Party. In 2004, she left the party to get involved in the Swedish feminism. She was from 1988 to 2006 Member of the Swedish Parliament, from 2004 as an independent Member of Parliament. From 2005 to 2011 she was chairman of the party co-founded by her party Feministiskt initiative (FI; Feminist Initiative ).

Political career

Schyman began her political career in the Marxist - Leninistiska Kampförbund ( Marxist-Leninist League of Struggle ). In 1977, she joined the Communist Vänsterparti Erna ( Left Party of the Communists in 1990 renamed Vänsterpartiet ) and was elected after the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union in 1993 as Chairman of the party.
