Guénange

Guénange ( German Niederginingen, 1940-44 Niederganingen, Lorraine Genéngen ) is a commune with 7092 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The community Guénange lies on the right bank of the Moselle, about seven kilometers south of Thionville. Lower Guénange ( Niederginingen ) lies directly on the River Moselle, Haute- Guénange ( Oberginingen ) inland.

History

The place was first mentioned in the 6th century as Ganigas and heard since 1659 to France.

Since 1810, the village Guélange is incorporated ( success ).

After the end of the Second World War, the municipality adopted by the steel boom a rapid upswing and multiplied its population.
