Guenrouet
Guenrouet ( Gwenred Breton ) is a commune with 3115 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loire -Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire in the canton of Saint -Gildas -des- Bois.
Geography
Guenrouet, occasionally also written Guenrouët, situated on the left bank of the river Isac, which forms part of the Canal de Nantes à Brest here. The canal is now used only for tourism purposes. The community has built a spacious leisure area on the river bank, which includes a marina for pleasure and houseboats.
History
- The community is founded by the Count of Vannes, Alain I the Great in the 9th century.
- During the French Revolution Guenrouët houses a revolutionary force in the rectory. But the population is hostile to the Civil Constitution of the Clergy and hidden recalcitrant priests.
- The construction of the Canal de Nantes à Brest, under the July Monarchy, promotes the economic development of the community.

Economy
