Guerric of Igny

Guerric of Igny (Latin Guerricus, also Werricho, * in 1070 /80 Tournai; † August 19, 1157 ) was a Cistercian, student and contemporary of St. Bernard and Seliger.

Originally canons and teacher at the cathedral school ( magister scholarum ) in Tournai joined Guerric to 1120/25 in the monastery of Clairvaux in 1138 and became the second abbot of Igny. He was a humble, yet passionate man and apply with Bernard of Clairvaux, Aelred of Rievaulx, and William of Saint Thierry as one of the " Four Evangelists of Citeaux " that shape the spirituality of the Cistercians until today. 54 of his sermons have been preserved and are still read and quoted today much.
