Gueskerou

Region

Guéskerou is a rural municipality in the department of Diffa in Niger.

Geography

Gueskérou located in the Sahel region in the south of the department. The center is located right on the river Komadugu Yobe, which forms the border with Nigeria here. Immediately southwest of Gueskérou is the regional capital Diffa. The other neighboring communities in Niger are Kabléwa in the north, Toumour in the east, in the southeast and Bosso Chétimari in the northwest. Due to its location on the river extend around the town center several gardens, in an otherwise predominantly dry municipality. Gueskérou consists of 61 traditional villages, 59 administrative villages, two camps and 22 water points. The main town of the rural community is Guéskerou consisting of the administrative villages Guéskerou I and II Guéskerou

History

Was Gueskérou in 1933 the capital of the newly created Canton Komadougou. In the administrative reform of 2002, all cantons Niger were dissolved and Gueskérou has since adopted the status of a rural community (French: commune Rurale ).

Population

At the 2001 census Guéskerou had 28 948 inhabitants. For the year 2010 39.553 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure
