Gueydan is a place in Vermilion Parish in Louisiana.

History

At the beginning of the story of Gueydan it was a hunting paradise, with big game and fish resources. Jean Pierre Gueydan, the founder of the town, in 1860 came often to the hunting of wild birds and the present location of Gueydan. Jean Pierre and Francois Gueydan bought 1896, the 160 km ² area, they established a small village. 1902 offered the founder Jean Pierre Country shares for sale to the settlers. The growing city had to go through several disasters, like the fire in 1901, 1903, 1910, and 1927, and there was a great flood in August 1940, which set the whole town under water.
