Guido of Siena

Guido da Siena ( bl. 1260-1290 ) was an Italian painter.

Life

Guido da Siena is one of the main masters of the Sienese painting of the second half of the 13th century. His name is preserved by an inscription on one of his major works, the great " Maestà " in the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena. It certainly involves a stage name. Secured documents about him are not known. Attempts to identify him with Guido da Ghezzo or Guido da Graziano could not be cogently.

Although it is not known from whom he learned the craft of painting, these works but a close relationship to the works of the Florentine Coppo di Marco Valdo. It is possible that Guido da Siena met him against 1260, when Coppo was because Marco Valdo probably fall into Sienese captivity.

Since the Guido da Siena attributed images are not of uniform quality, it can be assumed that he entertained a larger workshop.
