Guido Valadares

Guido Valadares ( born June 12, 1934 in Dili, Portuguese Timor; † August 30, 1976 in Madabate, subdistrict Lequidoe ) was a politician from East Timor.

Life

1959 graduated from Valadares a medical course and worked since 1960 in various positions in the medical service Portuguese Timor. In 1971 he was appointed chief nurse of the Hospital Dr Antonio Carvalho.

Valadares was a member of the National Committee of FRETILIN. In the government, proclaimed on November 28, 1975 Democratic Republic of East Timor, he was Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. Nine days later, Indonesia began a large-scale invasion of East Timor. Valadares left his wife and five children and helped with the organization of armed resistance, particularly in its medical care. On August 30, 1976, he died along with three comrades by a mine in Madabate ( subdistrict Lequidoe, District Aileu ). On September 1, they buried him in Bereleu ( Lequidoe ).

After the Valadares National Hospital Dili was renamed " Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares " ( tetum Ospital Nasional Guido Valadares ) on 29 June 2003.
