Guilford County, North Carolina
Guilford County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greensboro, which was named in the American Revolutionary War after Nathaniel Greene, a general.
The County is located north-west of the geographic center of North Carolina, is located in the north about 40 miles from Virginia and has an area of 1703 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rockingham County, Alamance County, Randolph County, Davidson County and Forsyth County.
Guilford County is divided into 18 townships: Bruce, Center Grove, Clay, Deep River, Fentress, Friendship, Gilmer, Greene, High Point, Jamestown, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Morehead, Oak Ridge, Rock Creek, Sumner and Washington.
Guilford County was formed in 1770 from parts of Rowan County. It was named for Francis North, 1st Earl Guilford.
According to the census in 2000, lived in Guilford County 421 048 people in 168 667 households and 109 802 families. The population density was 250 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 64.53 percent White, 29.27 percent Black or African American, 0.46 percent Native American, 2.44 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.81 percent from other races groups; 1.45 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.80 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 168 667 households out of which 30.4 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.0 percent were married couples living together, 13.4 percent were single mothers and 34.9 percent were non-families. 27.9 percent of all households and 8.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.96.
23.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 11.0 percent of 18 to 24 years 31.4 percent between 25 and 44, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 11.8 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 35 years. In all females there were 92.0 males. In all women aged 18 and over, 88.6 males.
The median income for a household was $ 42,618, and the median income for a family was $ 52,638. Males had a median income of $ 35,940 versus $ 27,092 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,340. 10.6 percent of the population and 7.6 percent of families are below the poverty line. 13.8 percent of them are children and adolescents under age 18 and 9.9 percent are 65 years or older.
