Guillaume de Villaret

Fra ' Guillaume de Villaret, also William of Villaret, Wilhelmus Villaretus, († 1307 in Limassol ) was a nobleman from Provence and from 1296 to 1305 the 24th Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller.

To 1284 was Guillaume Grand Prior of St. Gilles. Previously, he was rector of Comtat venaissin.

After the knights were driven out of the " Holy Land " (see also Acre ), and now resided in Cyprus, had been spreading throughout a certain self-indulgence in the Order. An attempt in 1300 at Tartus again to conquer a foothold on the mainland, had to be lack of support of the allied Mongols broken off (see also Siege of Aruad ).
