Guillaume Faugues

Guillaume Faugues ( * before 1442 † after 1471 ) was a French composer and cleric.

Biography

Probably Faugues comes from Normandy. So far, it has been possible only documentary evidence that he in the Sainte -Chapelle was staying in 1462 in Bourges. As of June 24, he represented for about three months, the magister puerorum, Pierre Lambert. Among the six choristers, for which he was responsible, among other things, was Philippe Basiron.

Maybe hit Faugues Johannes Ockeghem, as this was in Bourges in November 1462.

On July 16, 1471 noted the chapter at Bourges, it wish that ' Faugues the priest ' is the staying in Paris treasurer of the Cathedral imagine, to take the place of the late chaplain Johann Ploton. However, this will not come.

Faugues music was very popular in Italy, which has led to the hypothesis that the composer lived there for a long time. In fact, Christopher Reynolds assumed the identity Faugues the 1450s and 1460s in the years to Sant Peter's in Rome detectable composer and writer Guillelmus. This, in turn, is perhaps identical with Guillaume des Mares, who was a singer at San Peter and the Sistine Chapel in Rome in the 1470s. Guillaume des Mares is detected in the year 1464 at the cathedral in Évreux and as maître des enfants at the cathedral in Chartres.

The work

From Faugues only Fairs have survived. He used the cantus firmus in general paraphrasierender way, with limited changes to some embellishments and rhythmic changes, so that the unknown templates for measuring La basse danse and Je suis en la mer with some certainty could be reconstructed.

The tendency to imitative writing is detectable and eye-catching for a composer of the 1450s and 1460s in all fairs. Even in the L' homme armé Fair can be found despite the restriction by strict canon rules imitations. Characteristic of Faugues is the use of Superius his originals in the fairs. In that regard Faugues has paved the way to the John Martini and others will lead to the parody fair later.

Like some of his contemporaries, Faugues has often repeated in his masses parts or even whole sections later in the show. Another stylistic feature is the acquisition of borrowed material in the three - or two-part parts of his masses. All trade Faugues are very long ( between 1800-2100 Mens Uralt Act ).
