Guillermo Gorostiza

Guillermo Gorostiza Paredes ( February 15, 1909 *, † August 23, 1966 ) was a Spanish football player.

Career

Association

Gorostiza began his career in 1927 at Arenas Club de Getxo. After a brief interlude in Galicia at Racing de Ferrol the Basque signed for season 1929/30, a contract with Athletic Bilbao and coined the most successful decade of club history there. Together with his congenial strike partner Bata ran Gorostiza quickly in top form and secured immediately with a total of 19 goals the title of the scorer. He also won with his team in the Copa del Rey and the first Spanish league title in club history. This so-called double was successfully defended in the 1930/31 season. While in the league then followed by two vice - championships, was celebrated in 1932 and 1933, two more cup wins. For more league titles followed in 1934 and 1936.

Since the game was shut down during the Spanish Civil War, is Gorostiza graduated in 1937 on the Basque football selection and then played with these games in Europe and Mexico.

After the end of the civil war, he returned to Spain and signed a contract at FC Valencia. Again, did not take long for the results. In 1941 the club won for the first time in club history the Spanish Cup in 1942 and 1944, the first Spanish league title.

1946 moved Gorostiza finally for a season to FC Barakaldo before he trailed off his career as player-manager of CD Logroñés.

National

Gorostiza celebrated on 14 June 1930 as part of a 0-2 defeat against Czechoslovakia, his debut for the Spanish national team. Until his last appearance on December 28, 1941 against Switzerland, he played a total of 19 matches and participated in the World Cup 1934.
