Guise

Guise is a commune with 5173 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Aisne in the Picardie region; it belongs to the arrondissement of Vervins, is the capital of the Canton of Guise and the seat of the municipal association Région de Guise.

Geography

The place is between the Vermandois and thiérache, halfway between Saint- Quentin and Vervins in the north of the department of Aisne of the Oise. At a short distance of the Canal de la Sambre à l' Oise happened ( German: Sambre -Oise Canal) the city.

History

Guise has a castle, the rest of the fortifications north of France from the time of the Dukes of Guise. The castle was badly damaged during World War II.

During the Industrial Revolution Guise benefited from the social experiments of the entrepreneur Jean -Baptiste André Godin, one of which place profits today.
