Guitarrón mexicano

The guitarrón (Spanish: big guitar) is a Mexican bass instrument from the family of guitars. It typically has six strings ( ADGCEA, the deep A-string sounds an octave lower than the A- string of a normal guitar), but there are also four - and five-string versions. What is striking is the very large resonant body which is curved bulbous on the back. The guitarrón has no frets usually. It is played mostly standing, and especially in the Mexican mariachi bands.
