Guldbagge Awards

The Guldbagge is the national film award in Sweden. The award is presented each year, usually awarded in late January or early February, the Swedish Film Institute during a televised gala ( " Guldbaggegalan "). Since 2002, this place alternately in Stockholm or Gothenburg.

History

The award was established in 1964 by Harry bill into life, who had previously founded the year, the Swedish Film Institute. The first Guldbagge Gala took place on 25 September in 1964 in the winter garden of the Stockholm Grand Hôtel in the presence of 550 guests, including the Minister of Education Ragnar Edenman instead. The first Guldbagge winners were awarded prizes in the categories of Director, Actor and Actress. By the end of the 1980s only awards in the categories of Film, Director, Actor and Actress was awarded annually in addition to the 1978 and 2007 awarded Ingmar Bergman Prize and a special prize. Only in 1989, the film opened for more regular price categories. Filmmakers and film technicians such as writers or cameramen were taken into account. Also a price category for best foreign film was awarded. The most honored film director, Jan Troell, who brought so far on five awards, followed by actress Bibi Andersson with a total of four victories (as of December 2008). 1984 did not take place award to limit the period for qualifying films on the respective past calendar year.

Nominating and Voting Guidelines

To qualify for the award of the Guldbagge prices, fictional feature films must be celebrated its premiere in the previous calendar year and started in theaters. All films must have a barrel length of at least 73 minutes ( 2000 footage in 35mm film format ). Short films and documentaries qualify if they were shown on one of three predetermined festivals. In addition, the film based on a specific point system must prove Swedish production, for example, by the nationality of the participating filmmakers, the language or the nationality of the producer.

Annually, the Board determined the Swedish Film Institute, several Swedish film organizations and institutions that post two to four members in the nomination jury. Four other members are drawn from the ranks of the Swedish Film Institute itself, the members of the nominating jury look at all published during the calendar year Swedish feature films. Among these they vote in a secret ballot in the form of a postal ballot, depending on the category, the three best films or filmmakers ( the nominees in the categories of Best Foreign Film, Documentary and Short Film excluded). The absentee ballot is evaluated by the Swedish Film Institute. A week before the award ceremony, a jury is selected consisting of seven members and a chairman of the Swedish Film Institute, of which at least one member from another Scandinavian country must come as Sweden. The jury will decide in an open process of discussion about the winners in the different categories, which are then announced at the Guldbagge award of the public.

The nominations for Best Foreign Film, short film and documentary are selected by an independent jury, consisting of officials of the film festival in Gothenburg, Uppsala and the documentary film festival in Stockholm. The special rates are in turn determined by another jury consisting of members of the general nomination jury and filmmakers.

Categories

At the last ceremony of the Film Awards on January 24, 2011 in Stockholm winners were awarded in twelve categories and awarded separately audience prize and three special awards. As best Swedish film of the year, Babak Najafi Drama Sebbe prevailed, which was awarded in one of three nominated categories. To Guldbagge Awards 2012 seven new categories are introduced with Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Makeup, Best Music, Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects. The nominees were announced on January 4, 2012. The winners will be honored in a show hosted by Petra Mede TV gala on 23 January 2012.
