Gulf of Oman

The Gulf of Oman (Arabic خليج عمان Chalīdsch Oman, DMG Ḫalīǧ ʿ Umān, in the Persian often دریای ایران Daryā -e Īrān, " Iranian sea ", or دریای فارس Daryā -e Fārs, " Persian Sea" ) is the northwestern arm of the Arabian Sea, which is connected through the Strait of Hormuz to the Persian Gulf. It is 560 km long and falls into the depths of the west ( 50 m) to the east ( 200 m) sharply.

As an access route to the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman has a high strategic importance, as important oil-producing areas are in the Gulf countries for the global economy. The Gulf of Oman is bounded on the north by Pakistan and Iran, on the west by the United Arab Emirates and in the south of Oman. In the east, it opens to the Indian Ocean.
