Gulf of Papua

The Gulf of Papua or Papua Golf ( engl. Gulf of Papua ) is a 400 km wide sea area on the south coast of Papua New Guinea. He is in the northwest of the Coral Sea ( engl. Coral Sea ), a tributary of the sea of the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by the Western Province, the Gulf Province and the Central Province. The capital Port Moresby is located 70 km south-east of Cape Suckling, the easternmost point of the Gulf of Papua. The western end is marked by Parama Iceland, the southwestern point of the Fly River Delta. The line connecting the two points is considered southern boundary of the Gulf. This definition includes a marine area with a size of about 35,000 km ².

Some of the major rivers empty into the Gulf of Guinea Papua, as the Fly, the Turama, the Kikori and Purari.
