The Gulf of Patras (Greek Patraikos kolpos Πατραϊκός Κόλπος ) is located in the south a relatively shallow bay of the eastern Ionian Sea between the Greek mainland in the north and the Peloponnese Peninsula. The name derives from and most important city of the region is Patras on the south side.

The Gulf of Patras connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Ionian Sea, the Aegean Sea. The eastern border is the Strait of Rio - Antirrio ( Στενό Ρίου - Αντίρριου ) with the Rio Antirrio bridge. The expansion to the west is defined by an imaginary line from the Cape Araxos ( Ακρωτήριο Άραξος ) on the south side to the lagoon of Messolonghi ( Λιμνοθάλασσα Μεσολογγίου ) at Tourlida on the north side. With a length of about 40 km and a width between 11 km and 22.5 km of the Gulf of Patras occupies an area of about 350-400 km ². The deepest point is 135 m. In the northwest, between Cape Araxos and the lagoon of Messolonghi the maximum depth is about 45 m.

The adjacent communities belong to the region of Western Greece. Along the north side of Messolonghi and Nafpaktos, in the Peloponnese Patras and west of the town Dytiki Achaia.

From the north flow into the Gulf of Patras rivers Evinos, Kato Vasilikis and Loggies and from the south side Charadros, Glafcos and Piros
